You get the peak of the year's daylight—over eleven hours of bright sunshine daily—paired with afternoon temperatures that sit comfortably in the low twenties.
In June, the city feels effortless. Kayaks and electric sloops drift peacefully along the green-fringed city moat, cyclists stream out along the dykes beside the River IJssel, and the tables across the Grote Markt remain filled late into the twilight. Everything is open, green, and breezy, without a hint of midsummer exhaustion.
July and August represent the peak of Dutch summer warmth, but do not expect Mediterranean baking heat. Temperatures rarely become oppressive, settling instead into an easy, T-shirt-friendly warmth that invites endless wandering. What you must anticipate is humidity and summer rain: August and July bring the year's heaviest downpours, often arriving as brisk, dramatic afternoon cloudbursts that clear the air and leave the cobblestones steaming.
Crowds tick back up during these months as domestic families and regional holidaymakers explore the Hanseatic route, but it never reaches the frenetic gridlock of December. Life centers on the water.
