September is quietly the finest month of the year to be in Pilsen. The lingering heat of summer softens into crisp, gold-toned afternoons where temperatures hover around comfortable daytime highs, rain is modest, and the city settles into an unhurried, local rhythm.
While summer crowds have dispersed and autumn festival tourism has not yet crested, you can wander between the open spaces of Republic Square and the shady riverbanks without waiting for a table. Drinking beer outdoors at the edge of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery feels unforced, and exploring the subterranean cellars provides a welcome cool diversion rather than a chilly refuge from miserable street weather. If you want the city at its most graceful, this is the month to book.
Summer in western Bohemia is generous. From late spring through August, daylight stretches late into the evening, bringing between ten and twelve hours of bright sunshine. May opens the season with the Liberation Festival, filling the city center with vintage military convoys and street commemorations in honor of the US Army's arrival in 1945. The energy across town is palpable, yet overall visitor numbers remain remarkably moderate compared to late autumn.
June and July are surprisingly calm in terms of tourist volume, offering some of the year's best weather for wandering along the Radbuza River and Mže River, where parklands trace the old medieval boundaries. Temperatures occasionally touch warm peaks, but the confluence of river air and tree-shaded esplanades keeps city walking remarkably pleasant. Expect occasional afternoon downpours in August, but they clear quickly, leaving warm twilight for sprawling terraces around Republic Square.
October brings a sharp drop in temperatures and shorter days, but the atmosphere spikes with the arrival of Pilsner Fest. From January through April, the heavy crowds finally melt away, leaving behind raw, grey winter days that thaw slowly into a damp spring. While indoor sights like the Great Synagogue offer sheltered cultural depth, walking the cobblestone alleys can feel biting and bleak until late April. Unless your heart is set on the holiday market, visiting during the winter half of the calendar means paying a steep climatic penalty.
